| Orlando, Florida. One of the finest places along Florida's beautiful
coastline. Within 45 minutes driving distance of white sandy beaches, the clear emerald waters of the
Atlantic coastline and an average annual temperature of 72.5 degrees make this part of Florida a unique place to live, retire,
fish, boat, play and enjoy. The Orlando area has attracted more than one million residents in the past 20
years and is now the 28th largest metro area in the nation. The greater
Orlando area has now a
population of 1.7 million, in an area consisting of Orange, Seminole,
Osceola and Lake counties. Orange County has close to one million residents itself, with about 200,000 living within the City of Orlando. With a median age of 35 years, Orlando’s cost of living is 99.2, which is below the national average of 100. Compare that with New York (219), Boston (137), and Los Angeles (138) and you can see why besides the fantastic weather, the cost of living continues to attract new residents to the Orlando. And the housing market continues to boom, with more than 2,000 homes being bought and sold each month through Orlando Realtors®. about Orlando: The list of major employers is still led by Walt Disney World (53,000 jobs),
followed by Florida Hospital (12,808), Universal Orlando (12,000), Orlando
Regional Healthcare (12,000), and Lockheed Martin (5,053). The Orange County
Public School system is the largest government employer with 25,000 employees.
Overall, the area is home to more than 200 private and public schools, three
colleges/universities, and three community colleges.
Orlando area schools serve about 210,000 students in the four-county MSA,
which is comprised of Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties. Of that
total, the Orange County Public School System is the 4th largest in the state
and 14th largest in the nation with more than 150,000 students in 144
different schools. The public system in Seminole County is the number one
rated system in the state, serving 60,000 students at 53 schools.
Osceola and Lake counties serve 33,000 and 32,000 students respectively.
The area is also home to one college: Rollins College; two universities:
University of Central Florida and Stetson University; and three community
colleges: Valencia, Seminole and Lake-Sumter. |
